Vanilla Cupcakes with Sweet Orange Marmalade & Cream Cheese Frosting
There’s something magical about the warm glow of golden hour—the way the light hits just right, creating a soft, dreamy ambiance. That’s exactly what inspired my Golden Hour Cupcakes—a perfect balance of rich vanilla flavor, bright citrusy marmalade, and velvety cream cheese frosting. Each bite is a little moment of sunshine!
To truly appreciate the essence of these Golden Hour Cupcakes, let’s explore the inspiration behind them. The golden hour is a fleeting time of day, often characterized by warm, soft light that enhances everything it touches. It’s a moment of beauty, akin to the delightful experience of enjoying a perfectly baked cupcake. Imagine sitting outside during this magical time, savoring the sweetness of these treats, with the sun dipping on the horizon, casting a warm glow over the world. This imagery is what I wanted to encapsulate in every bite of my cupcakes.
Now, let’s talk about the ingredients that make these cupcakes truly special. The vanilla extract used in the recipe is essential for imparting that deep, rich flavor that vanilla lovers crave. Pairing it with vanilla bean paste not only amplifies the flavor but also adds those beautiful little specks of vanilla bean throughout the cupcakes, enhancing both appearance and taste. As for the orange marmalade, making it from scratch allows you to control the sweetness and texture, ensuring that it perfectly complements the overall flavor profile.
Using Greek yogurt in the batter is a game-changing secret that contributes to the rich, moist texture of the cupcakes. Yogurt not only adds moisture but also provides a slight tang that balances the sweetness. Additionally, the inclusion of oil helps maintain the cupcakes’ softness over several days, ensuring that they remain enjoyable even if you don’t finish them all in one sitting.
The bright and citrusy aspect of these cupcakes is one of their standout features. The homemade sweet orange marmalade can be tailored to your taste—whether you prefer it with a little extra zest for a punch or a smoother texture without chunks. This versatility means you can create a version that best suits your palate. Additionally, if you’re feeling adventurous, consider infusing your marmalade with herbs like rosemary for an unexpected flavor twist.
The cream cheese frosting is the crowning glory of these cupcakes. Cream cheese adds a richness that butter alone cannot provide. To achieve the perfect frosting, it’s essential to beat the cream cheese until it’s smooth and fluffy before adding the powdered sugar. This ensures that the frosting has a luxurious texture that feels heavenly on the palate. You can also experiment with flavorings by adding a splash of vanilla extract or even a squeeze of fresh orange juice to enhance the citrus notes.
These cupcakes are incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed at various occasions. For a casual setting, serve them at a picnic alongside refreshing lemonade or iced tea. For a more formal event, consider pairing them with a glass of champagne or a floral herbal tea. Their aesthetic appeal, with the soft frosting and vibrant marmalade peeking through, makes them perfect for celebrations like birthdays, bridal showers, or holiday gatherings.
These cupcakes are soft, moist, and infused with a deep vanilla flavor, thanks to a mix of vanilla extract and vanilla bean paste. The surprise inside? A luscious homemade sweet orange marmalade, adding a vibrant citrus burst that complements the creamy frosting beautifully.
Why You’ll Love These Golden Hour Cupcakes
Customization is key when it comes to baking, and these cupcakes are no exception. You can easily swap out the orange marmalade for a variety of fillings to suit your taste preferences. For instance, lemon curd offers a tart alternative, while strawberry jam introduces a sweet, fruity note. If you want to elevate the presentation, consider using pastry bags to pipe the frosting in creative swirls or rosettes, topped with fresh fruit or zest for added flair.
✔ Rich & Moist – Thanks to Greek yogurt and oil, these cupcakes stay soft and fluffy.
✔ Bright & Citrusy – The homemade sweet orange marmalade adds a fresh, tangy contrast.
✔ Dreamy Frosting – Creamy, slightly tangy, and perfectly sweet, the cream cheese frosting is a game-changer!
After baking, allow your cupcakes to cool completely before decorating them. This step is crucial as it prevents the frosting from melting and losing its shape. To store your completed cupcakes, place them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate them for longer freshness. They are perfect for meal prep or as a sweet treat to brighten up your week.

Notes
• Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure your butter, eggs, and yogurt are at room temperature for a smooth, lump-free batter.
• Don’t Overmix: Overmixing can lead to dense cupcakes. Stir just until the ingredients are combined.
• Check for Doneness: Insert a toothpick into the center of a cupcake—if it comes out clean, they’re ready!Marmalade Tips
• Adjusting Sweetness: If you prefer a slightly tangier marmalade, reduce the sugar slightly.
• Peel Texture: If you like a smoother marmalade, blend the orange peels along with the fruit.
• Storage: Store leftover marmalade in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks—it’s great on toast too!Frosting Tips
• Chill for Stability: If your frosting is too soft, pop it in the fridge for 10–15 minutes before piping.
• Use High-Quality Butter: It makes a difference in both texture and taste.
• Avoid Overbeating: Overbeaten frosting can become too soft or even curdled. Beat just until smooth.
